Carl Froch Bio
Carl Froch (32) was born 2 July 1977 in Nottingham, England. His surname Froch pronounced "FROTCH" is
Polish in origin with Carl Having Polish grandparents.
His parents Carol and Frank own a pub in Nottingham which Carl still visits when not in training and occasionally participates in karaoke.
Carl has a younger brother (27) called Wayne who is a self employed plasterer in Nottingham. Carl is a keen diy'er himself and maitains a string of properties he rents out in Nottingham.
Carl is in a relationship with model Rachel Cordingley who he met through friends when in London.
Early Career
Carl took up boxing at the age of 9. He then joined the Phoenix ABC gym in Gelding Nottingham.
Carl had a stellar amateur career winning the ABA middleweight championship twice in 1999 and 2001. He also won a bronze medal at the World amateur boxing championships before turning pro in 2002.
A former student
Carl is one of few boxers I have come across (other than Ricky Piper) who had a college education. Carl studied at Loughborough where he studied for a national diploma in sports science.
Carl was described as a model student by one of his tutors Andy Mawdsley. He also had this to say of Carl:
“He was in a class with younger students and they respected and looked up to him. He was very popular in class and the others thought he was cool – not someone to be messed with. Carl referred to his boxing in many of his assignments and was considering the idea of turning pro at the time. He was very focused and driven, and a thoroughly nice bloke who put his head down and got on with his work. I think he got distinction in all his subjects.
Nottingham Forest ties
Carl is an avid Nottingham Forest supporter
and according to his facebook profile has a
season ticket.
Carl even wanted to become a professional
footballer when growing up.Carl has been known
to train at Nottingham ground before fights.
Musical influences
Carl is a huge Johnny Cash fan. When in training he listens to his songs on his MP3 and also as a hobby sings his favourite Johnny Cash songs although I am sure he will admit singing is not his forte :>
His ring walk music is Queen "We will rock you" and for the Pascal fight "Welcome to the jungle" was added by guns and roses.
Entrepreneur
Carl is known to buy properties and restore them. His friends call him Rigsby after the character from Rising Damp. Carl has no qualms about getting his hands dirty either. According to an article from the Daily Star he had to wear protective gear to clean up one of the houses he rented out after the person living in the property disappeared and left it in a terrible state :
Film Fan
In previous interviews Carl has admitted he is a film fan and watches them on the days of his fights to relax. One of his favourites is Gladiator. Here is what he had to say about it:
"I love watching Gladiator because it is a film about a proud warrior doing the business. I'd like to think I was doing the same.
"It's a really good film and obviously being a fighter is like the build-up of going into the arena like a gladiator.
"What the gladiators went through is life or death so it is more intense than professional boxing. But that film does it for me in the sense that the waiting out in the changing rooms or underground waiting to go out and face the crowd and face the battle.
"I probably won't watch it again before the fight. I have seen what I need to see and it'll stay with me.
He also likes gangster films such as Casino and Goodfellas.
